Frequently Asked Questions
Can we remove the front glass from a service case in busy
times to facilitate self-service?
No: The front tempered glass
plays a major part in the environmental control of the display
case, unless the case has specifically been designed to operate
as an open front self service case.
Can we remove the rear doors on a service case during busy
times and still maintain the temperature?
Most cases require the rear sliding doors to help control
air flow. The only case in the Arctica line up that is designed
to operate with or without the rear doors is our M33 series
of cases.
What type of lights do I need to purchase for my display
case?
Arctica display cases come with standard T8 cool white bulbs that have a color
corrective spectrum sleeve. This sleeve serves two purposes, one being in the
event of impact damage and the bulb shatters the sleeve contains the broken glass
until you can get the product out of the case. And two, it corrects the light
spectrum within the case and shows the true product colors.
When I expand, can I add to this line-up and not have it
look like a patch job?
Arctica has been manufacturing quality display cases for
20 years and we have many customers who in that time have
purchased their first location, moved or renovated; expanded
and added cases to their line ups and Arctica has been able
to match their equipment needs. Arctica will continue to
make our cases available to our established customers.
Can I change my self-contained cases to operate on remote
refrigeration?
Absolutely, any qualified refrigeration company can modify
a case from self contained to remote refrigeration; just
remember that you will need to supply drainage to the case
as it isn’t advised to operate a remote case while
using electric evaporator pans. The moisture could build
up under the cases. Contact the factory for detailed information
on BTU ratings and additional information.
When should I choose remote refrigeration in place of self-contained
refrigeration?
The advantage of using remote refrigeration is you can remove
the heat and noise of multiple compressors from your retail
area. In addition with remote refrigeration and floor drains
all of the heat generating components have been removed from
the store front and are usually placed in an area where servicing
them is easier. Like any motor they require service.
In dryer climates, can I add humidification into a display
case?
Adding humidification to an Arctica showcase isn’t necessarily related
just to dryer climates. Arctica Showcase Canada Inc. uses oversized coils that
allow us to run the coils a little warmer. This is done to help keep the coils
moist and reduce frosting. Frosting removes moisture from the air and ultimately
the product. Humidification is added based on product requirements. Some products
require a higher moisture level than do others. Pastry with pure cream frosting
needs more moisture than a chocolate layer cake. Chocolates and candies require
much less moisture and do better in a very dry case. Contact the factory reps
and they can assist you in your decision.
Where does Arctica place the temperature sensor, and why?
Arctica places our temperature sensor in the return air flow
located at the fan housing just prior to the coil that chills
the air. Arctica recommends that you set the case temperature
based on product temp. If your product requires 38 degrees
then adjust the case until product temperature is right regardless
what temperature shows on the sensor. It might be showing
40 degrees at the sensor but your product is where it should
be. Contact the factory if you have additional questions.
Do all of Arctica showcases work in
line-ups?
NO: Arctica manufactures three basic styles of display cases
and each style have Refrigerated, Dry and Heated units. The
three Styles are the Diamond Series, the EkoMax
Series and the Omega Series.
- The Diamond series is available in Diamond 52, Diamond
49, Diamond Buffet and the M33.
